Property Description
The cabin is rough but the land is nice. Can you fix it? Maybe, but at this price it should be considered a salvage operation. This 4-bedroom homestead in Aroostook County has a private pond and a brook.
LOCATION – The cabin is located at 1130 Wrightsville Road in Ashland Maine. Ashland is a gateway town to the North Maine Woods and access to the millions of acres open for fishing, hunting and recreating. The town has a population of just over 1,200. Most residents work in the wood products and farming industry. The nearest city is Presque Isle about 20 miles east of Ashland, it has a commercial airport and hospital.
LOG CABIN – The main cabin is reported to have been constructed in 1984 with additions in 2012 and 2013. It currently has 4 bedrooms with a half bath on the first floor and a full bath up. The building is set on post and piers. A drilled well is located on the property. The cabin will need a lot of work to bring it back to good condition but at this price use you carpenter skills to save.
LAND – 20 +/- acres of mostly forested land makes up the property. A private pond is located north of the cabin. Brown Brook and its associated beaver ponds are the other water features onsite and will form about half of the southern boundary of the land. Brown Brook runs cold all year and is certainly a potential nursery for wild Maine brook trout. No recent timber harvesting has been done on the property. The forest type is mostly softwood.
AROOSTOOK COUNTY – People come to northern Maine and Aroostook County and the low population density is not the only reason. For outdoor adventurers finding a more diverse landscape would be difficult. The 6,800 square miles of ''The County'' make it by far the largest county in Maine and the second largest in the US east of the Mississippi.
The eastern ¼ of Aroostook County and parts of the northern extremes along the Saint John River Valley have some of the most fertile soil in Maine. This area has many large and small f
